__HUNGER
_(Some sites say eat white kidney beans, maybe from Vitacost.)
_Never full after eating. I would suspect either a problem with the hypothalamus or a problem with not producing serotonin properly. There is a genetic disorder called Willi-Prader syndrome where the person never feels full. This results from a defect of the hypothalamus. Researching this will give you a better idea of the role of the hypothalamus.
_As for the serotonin link, serotonin suppresses the appetite. One of the reasons people tend to overeat is that they consume proteins with their carbohydrates. Carbohydrates by themselves will stimulate a release of brain tryptophan, which then converts in to serotonin suppressing the appetite. So your mom was right about eating that candy before dinner will spoil your appetite. But taking protein with the carbohydrates blocks the release of tryptophan and thus prevents proper serotonin production. So people eat more when consuming high protein with carbohydrates since they cannot get their serotonin "fix".
_What herbs work to curb the appetite, give more energy and focus to get things done? Curbing the appetite: An apple, spirulina or 5-HTP. Energy: Carnitine, pollen and other B vitamin sources build up the adrenals and thyroid, if needed. Also make sure the lack of energy is not from other reasons such as anemia or medications. Focus: Periwinkle, gotu kola, EFAs, protein sources, choline, TMG. ... As for the long life span thing we must keep in mind the majority of people with very long life spans do not get there from diet, but rather lack of stress.
_When we eat slowly by chewing thoroughly the stomach fills up slower and the stomach tells the brain that it full before we overeat. This can also help to control blood sugar for the same reason. Studies have shown that overeating can lower life expectancy due to elevated blood sugar. Slower eating also helps us to not overeat as it gives the brain more time to convert tryptophan, released from the ingestion of carbohydrates, in to serotonin, which kills the appetite. And of course it allows us to enjoy our food more if the food tastes good.
_ I am a firm believer of water with meals. First of all is it allows the food to mix better with the acids and enzymes. Water is also essential for the extraction process. Remember from chemistry that water is the universal solvent. It helps to extract the vitamins, minerals, alkaloids, etc. from our foods. And the water helps to expand the food we ingest, which again helps to prevent us form overeating.
_As for the claim it dilutes stomach acid, this is kind of misleading. If you give the body what it needs to produce its stomach acid properly then the stomach will just increase its output of stomach acid if diluted to restore the proper pH. If age, or some other issue, is reducing the stomach's ability to generate enough stomach acid then bitters can be used to stimulate the secretion.

__HYPOTHYROIDISM
_[Check] basal body temperature for a week to make sure [of] not [being] severely hypothyroid. Severe hypothyroidism can lead to the weight gain and an abnormally slow heartbeat. The weight gain can also increase levels of estrogen, which in turn can further suppress the thyroid. ... Lab tests frequently miss hypothyroidism. ...
_To increase oxygen levels in the blood I recommend suma. Suma is the highest source of organic germanium, which helps the cells to utilize oxygen more efficiently.
_And don't forget exercise for the weight loss and to help work the lungs.

__OVEREATING
_One of the reasons people tend to overeat is that they consume proteins with their carbohydrates. Carbohydrates by themselves will stimulate a release of brain tryptophan, which then converts in to serotonin suppressing the appetite. But taking protein with the carbohydrates blocks the release of tryptophan and thus prevents proper serotonin production.

_For frequent hunger, you did mention you have adrenal dysfunction so chronic hypoglycemia is likely. A few things that can help are of course building up the adrenals. More fiber in your diet will also slow the absorption of glucose, which can help prevent rebound hypoglycemia. More protein in your diet will also slow gastric emptying. Spirulina and chlorella are the highest herbal sources. Nettle leaf also has a fair amount of protein and it also supports the adrenals and thyroid. If you also want to focus on your hypothalamus then I recommend adding alfalfa herb and maybe more seaweeds to your regime. These will also help with your hormones.

__Ancient Chinese white tea may fight obesity
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/china/5255134/Ancient-Chinese-white-tea-may-fight-obesity.html
_By Peter Foster in Beijing 11:43AM BST 01 May 2009
_White tea has previously been linked to the creation of stronger bones, lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of some cancers. The new research, published in the journal Nutrition and Metabolism and was conducted by the German health foods company Beiersdorf AG, now claims that anti-fat properties can be added to that list. ... "We've shown that white tea may be an ideal natural source of slimming substances". Scientists tested extracts of white tea on laboratory-grown human fat cells or 'adipocytes' and found fat levels were reduced.

__Chromium/magnesium - blood sugar woes
https://www.curezone.org/forums/fm.asp?i=1853595#i
_Do chromium & magnesium really reverse insulin resistance, or just help for folk who have this condition?
_They can work to reverse the insulin resistance. In insulin resistance the insulin receptors are not destroyed, they are just closed. It is magnesium and chromium that help keep them open. Here are some old studies I posted previously:
http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=1528348#i
http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=1535880#i
_For example if someone was a sugar addict 20 years, could they use chromium and magnesium for a few months and all the damage the sugar abuse caused would be reversed?
_The damage is a different story than the insulin resistance. And taking this further is not always the glucose causing the damage. Most of the serious damage comes from elevated insulin levels. As to what can and cannot be fixed this depends a lot on what was damaged and to what severity.
_Or do they still need to go on a low sugar diet to truly reverse it, i.e. chromium is just a mask while you have IR its not a cure and doesnt help reverse anything, its the diet that reverses the damage.
_Chromium is essential to maintaining insulin receptors, so it is not just masking the problem, it can help to correct it. Although if a person is overweight this can also increase insulin resistance so losing weight can help.
_Also would fasting help with blood sugar probs?
_I would not recommend it for several reasons. One, fasting puts stress on the body. Secondly, fasting can lead to rebound weight gain. And finally, fasting can also mean not getting the nutrients required for helping to maintain insulin sensitivity.
_For body fat caused by cortisol I recommend adaptogenic herbs, vitamin C and pantothenic acid rich foods to build up the adrenal glands. For herbs I recommend schisandra berry, ashwagandha, amla, and nettle leaf. For foods I recommend watercress, rice bran, and nutritional yeast. Several of these herbs also promote the burning of body fat and support the thyroid.
__OVERWEIGHT
_The hypothalamus gland is the key subconscious part of the brain that registers the leptin signal. When the leptin center in the hypothalamus gland is damaged then obesity results, due to a breakdown in central regulation of metabolism by your nervous system. In this study a drug was used to induce damage to the hypothalamus gland resulting in obesity. Pantethine helped offset the problems that were induced, resulting in lower food intake, less weight gain, better insulin and glucose levels, lower triglycerides, lower cholesterol, and improved activation of lipoprotein lipase in white adipose tissue. Pantethine is a potent nutrient to help maintain healthy fat burning and thus better leptin function.

_As for the weight loss, calcium has been shown to increase the metabolism and help with weight loss. Silica, like vitamin D, enhances calcium absorption. [Do not take calcium with magnesium but at different times of the day.]
